I unintentionally hung out with a few strangers who I met at a restaurant bar.
Let me back up a little. I also would like to preface that I am meticulously observant of my surroundings, go with my gut, and wouldn’t put myself in a situation that I didn’t feel comfortable in. The fact of the matter is, that sometimes you just go with the flow when life presents opportunity.
After work the other night, I was so hungry that I could eat a whole elephant - something I would say to my mom after school when I was younger. I had been eyeing the Noble Crust’s F.G.B.L.T dish for a couple of months now, and both my mind and stomach were up for the solo adventure.
When I arrived, the parking lot was completely full which left me with only two fate determining options, or so I told myself. If I find a parking spot, I’ll go in and have dinner. If not, I’ll go home and make a homemade meal like I originally intended to. Sure enough a young woman, who looked to be on a mission, got into her Jeep and sped out of the now open spot. Fate determined.
The bar had only two seats open, both centered between an older couple, and a few pals on a business trip. As I contently enjoyed food and drinks to myself, the business pals started to include me in their conversation. Before I knew it half of the bar, including myself, was cheer-sing one another to being content in the moment. Hoorah!
I was asked what the next place should be to continue the fun. Conveniently close, a fun little dive bar called Kahuna’s instantly came to mind. I’ve been there once previously to sing at their Saturday karaoke night. We all cheered each other on playing darts and playfully talked shit to one another through a couple rounds of pool.
Coming back from the restroom, my eye caught a handful of familiar looking souls on the front patio, making music with their guitars and drums, singing and dancing to familiar tunes. I quickly grabbed my belongings and went outside to join, where I spent the remainder of my evening. There's nothing like the feeling of content and liberation, my friends.
It's funny how unintentional dinner plans blossomed into a full evening of new adventures with strangers I had just met. When life gives you opportunity, and you feel comfortable, allow yourself to go with the flow and let loose. Who knows where it will lead!
